Philips and videoconferencing firm Vidyo have joined forces so that health IT providers can extend telehealth services across the enterprize in a way that they say will improve both patient care and clinician workflow, as well as reduce costs. Next-generation telehealth services need scalable and flexible video technology that can adapt to the currently available range of both workstations and mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops, say the partners.

The Dutch manufacturer will incorporate remote monitoring, clinical decision support and Vidyo’s videoconferencing technology with its own solution to create a clinical platform for communications and collaboration. Mike Mancuso, Philips Healthcare’s senior vice president & general manager, enterprise patient informatics solutions and patient monitoring systems, said the vendor is working with market leaders on expanding telehealth within hospitals but also externally to remote clinics, physicians’ offices and patients’ homes.
