The Guardian reports that T-Mobile is poised to announce the appointment of Richard Moat, one of the team who helped Hans Snook build the Orange brand, as the new boss of its flagging UK business.

MTS has announced the commercial launch of its 3G network in Armenia. Services are available in the three largest cities of the country - Yerevan (the capital), Guymri and Vanadzor. It is the first time that 3G/HSPA services have been launched in the country.

Telenor has informed the Indian government that it plans to invest up to INR11,200 crore (US$2.24 billion) in Unitech Wireless and has also sought approval to increase its stake in the company to up to 74 percent, reports India's Economic Times.

Ericsson today said it has achieved interoperability between a commercial LTE device and LTE network, claiming the move to be a world-first. The Swedish vendor used Samsung's new LTE dongles and its own live LTE network in Stockholm. "This is the first time a commercial, standard compliant LTE device demonstrated full interoperability with a live network," said Johan Wibergh, senior VP and head of networks at Ericsson, in a statement.

TeleGeography reports that Vodafone Essar has raised a debt of approximately INR100 billion (US$2.02 billion) from the State Bank of India; the loan will be spread over a five-year period.

Reuters notes that Oracle will buy Sun Microsystems  for US$9.50 a share, valuing the high-end computer server maker at more than US$7 billion.
