Emerging markets group Orascom Telecom moved back into the black during the second quarter of 2012, with revenue growth driven by “strong subscriber growth and an increase in data and VAS uptake in our main subsidiaries, namely in Algeria, Pakistan and Bangladesh”. The company reported a net income attributable to shareholders of US$27.1 million, compared with a prior-year loss of US$58.4 million, on revenue of US$934.2 million, up 0.8 percent from US$926.5 million. Its subscriber base passed 83 million, up 14.8 percent from the end of Q2 2011.
