France Telecom-Orange has committed to providing one third of EU hospitals covering 20 percent of its citizens with digitised health services including areas such as medical imagery, chronic disease management, prevention & wellness and secure medical data management. Orange’s target for healthcare is one of ten commitments the operator has made to the European Commission. The commitments formalize the operator's backing for the commission’s Digital Agenda for Europe, it says. Orange is present in ten European countries. It did not offer a date by which it would reach its commitment on providing digital services to hospitals.

The ten commitments cover three categories: fast communications, rich services and responsible behaviour. The commitment on healthcare was featured in the second category relating to services. The target to digitise Europe’s hospitals fits with Orange’s existing strategy which its head of healthcare Thierry Zylberberg laid out to Mobile Health Live recently.
