Orange Business Services has joined forces with medical device vendor Sorin to this month launch a remote monitoring service for heart patients, as first reported by Mobile Health Live. The partners are offering their Smartview service to healthcare providers in several European countries.

A cardiac implant manufactured by Sorin sends data to a bedside monitor which then in turn uploads the data over Orange’s cellular network. The network can also deliver alert messages if necessary. Orange and Sorin have jointly established a helpdesk service to assist healthcare providers in running the remote monitoring service.

Thierry Zylberberg talked about launching the service at the recent Mobile Health Summit in Cape Town and confirmed first to Mobile Health Live that it was to launch first in Europe.
