Japan’s number-one operator NTT Docomo has reported an increase in profits and revenue for the first quarter of its 2012 financial year as it doubled its smartphone sales. Net income for the period increased 3.5 percent to hit JPY164.3 billion (US$2.1 billion) on operating revenue of JPY1.07 trillion, a 2.4 percent increase. The company reported smartphone sales of 2.49 million, 92 percent up year-on-year, which now include 11 LTE-enabled devices.
