Leading medical app developer iTriage, which has just been acquired by healthcare insurer Aetna, has integrated Microsoft’s Heathvault into its iPhone app, meaning users can view and access medical records stored in the Microsoft system from their iPhones. The company will shortly integrate Healthvault into an Android version of its app. The iTriage app is free from the iTunes app store or Android Market. The company's aim is to become a mobile aggregator for multiple personal health record systems such as Healthvault.

iTriage is already integrated with Google Health although the search giant is shelving its PHR system. Users have not been able to view, enter or edit their health data in the Google system since the start of 2012 although data is available to users for transfer to another system until January 1, 2013.  The role of becoming mobile aggregator might have been a factor in last month’s acquisition of iTriage by Aetna. In addition, the company has built up a healthy audience for its app which it says has been downloaded by “more than three million people”. The app enables users to view information on symptoms, disease and medications, as well as the location of nearby clinicians.
