India’s Department of Telecommunications has informed the government that an auction to reallocate 2G spectrum licences will take 13 months to complete, reports The Economic Times newspaper. This follows the Supreme Court’s decision this month to cancel all 122 2G licences issued in controversial circumstances in 2008 and reallocate them more fairly. Under the Supreme Court ruling, operators using the licences in question have less than four months to continue operating their 2G services.
