Analyst firm Infonetics Research said that by the end of 2010, service providers worldwide will have outsourced “about $53.5 billion” of networking tasks to equipment vendors, 8 percent more than in 2009, with “major outsourcing deals looming” which will mean that “Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, and Huawei may end up running three-quarters of the networks on this planet.” While in 2008 the split between fixed and mobile network outsourcing was roughly equal, by 2014 mobile networks will account for 61 percent of the total.
