NEC Casio Mobile Communications plans to enter the smartphone business this fiscal year with the world’s thinnest handset, according to Japan’s Nikkei. The company has applied technology cultivated from manufacturing folding handsets to develop a smartphone that is 7.7 millimeters thick, 1 mm thinner than the Xperia offered by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. NEC Casio will reportedly supply its new model to NTT DoCoMo.
