South African fixed line incumbent Telkom issued a trading update for the year to 31 March 2011, noting that its profit will be impacted by a ZAR1.1 billion (US$162 million) operating loss relating to the start-up of its mobile business, 8ta. It also noted that its Multi-Links CDMA business has been reclassified as a disposal group held for sale, in line with its planned disposal of this unit, and that it had previously benefitted from the sale and gain on unbundling of its 50 percent stake in mobile operator Vodacom.
