Facebook has announced that it has surpassed the 1 billion user mark and mobile has played a significant part in this growth with 600 million people per month using mobile devices to access the social network.

The Facebook Platform for Mobile launched in October 2007, with the first iteration of the iPhone app following in July 2008. Facebook is now accessed by more than 7,000 different types of mobile device.

In addition, Facebook’s app centre, which offers mobile and web apps for the platform, currently has more than 220 million monthly active users.
