Malaysian mobile operator Maxis and Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), a leading centre for cardiovascular and thoracic health in the region, have launched a new service that offers heart health tips via SMS, smartphone and the web.

Maxis users can subscribe to a service whereby they receive three SMSes a week with content provided by IJN. Smartphone users can access heart-related information for free via an app. They can subscribe to the SMS-based content via the same app. There is also advice available online.

The three-times-a-week service costs RM2 (US$0.65) per month. Alternatively users can pay on a per-SMS basis which costs RM0.20.

The advice covers general heart health, cardio fitness and cardiac diet and is available in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.

The mobile operator says it will contribute 10 percent of the revenue generated by the SMS-bsaed service to the IJN Foundation for its patient assistance programme.
