LG Electronics said it will open a “premium paid app service for customers in the US” starting this month, which it said follows the launch of a similar store in the UK in July 2011. It also complements a number of free apps which are already available from the LG SmartWorld site, which is available in 39 countries. It also said that “the paid app service on LG SmartWorld will be introduced market-by-market over the next several months.”

According to the company, the LG SmartWorld store features a 3D Zone with “an array of premium 3D content,” including videos and games, to support its Optimus 3D device. It said that of the 10 most popular paid apps on LG SmartWorld, eight are 3D products, “reflecting the growing demand and popularity of the mobile 3D experience.”

Jongseok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics, said: “our goal with the addition of paid premium apps is to make LG SmartWorld a seamless gateway to the best content currently available for our Android smartphones.”
