South Korea’s telecom regulator has begun an investigation into whether operators had provided “excessive” subsidies for handset purchases, warning of tough sanctions for offenders, Reuters reports. This follows reports that SK Telecom had called for penalties for rivals KT and LG U+ for allegedly expanding subsidies at the expense of competition, as the operators also face pressure to cut their charges in order to help rein-in inflation.
