Japanese mobile operator KDDI plans to launch a dual 3G/WiMAX service before the end of the year, reports Telecompaper, citing an article in the Nikkei. The company will offer four devices from Hitachi that can access 3G as well as WiMAX networks from December. MVNO Japan Communications is expected to offer a similar service this year. To offer the WiMAX service, both companies will lease spectrum from WiMAX operator UQ Communications.
