Telecompaper reports that Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said it received four applications for licenses to deploy what it calls ‘3.9G’ mobile networks. The new mobile networks will use frequencies in the 2,010MHz to 2,025MHz range for introducing LTE technology. The applicants are expected to be the major mobile operators NTT DoCoMo, KDDI, Softbank Mobile and eMobile. A decision on the licenses is expected this summer.
