Reuters reported that the Indonesian telecoms regulator had “advised” PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia and Bakrie Telecom to “pre-notify” it before moving toward a long-rumoured merger, due to the fact that the combined business would have a virtual monopoly in the country’s CDMA market. However, it is possible that the companies will be able to work around the concern, as the joint business will still be outranked by a number of competing, GSM-family operators.
