The Indian government will today set the starting price for 2G spectrum that will be auctioned later this year, according to Reuters sources. The Indian cabinet will reportedly be presented with two price options for the spectrum – INR140 billion (US$2.5 billion) or INR150 billion for 5MHz of spectrum in the 1.8GHz band – as recommended by a ministerial panel. The auction follows the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel 122 2G licences in February due to irregularities in their original allocation in 2008.
