Huawei confirms kit sold to MTN Irancell; says not used for censorship

Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei has confirmed that it has sold equipment and a mobile news delivery platform to Iranian operator MTN Irancell, reports Bloomberg. However, Huawei denied claims its kit is being used for censorship, saying it doesn’t provide “any services relating to monitoring or filtering technologies and equipment anywhere in the world,” in an emailed statement. Bloomberg reported last month that authorities in Iran use technology bought from foreign companies to monitor dissidents.
