Chinese vendor Huawei claims to have successfully completed a circuit switched (CS) fallback voice call with an unnamed ‘third-party’ handset provider. Huawei believes the move is significant as it proves that operators using LTE for data services will still be able to use their existing CS networks to provide voice services. The issue of providing voice services over all-IP LTE data networks is a thorny one, with a long-term solution expected to be provided by VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology.
