GSMA and Bharti Infratel team up for greener towers

28 MAR 2012

The GSMA has partnered with Indian tower provider Bharti Infratel to develop and promote green technology for India’s tower infrastructure. The alliance will see 1,000 diesel-powered Infratel towers converted, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 11,000 tonnes. Bharti Infratel has almost 9,000 towers located off the electricity grid, meaning other forms of power are needed. It has already converted 1,350 sites to the solar-hybrid model.
