Glooko is the latest mobile health device vendor to receive venture funding with US$3.5 million in Series A support from backers Social + Capital Partnership, Bill Campbell, Vint Cerf, Judy Estrin and Andy Hertzeld. This is the latest in a string of recent investments in companies that manufacture health and wellness devices and a sign that backers think the sector is due for a major take-up. Further evidence was available from the number of mhealth devices at January's CES in Las Vegas.

Glooko manufactures a lead that connects a user's blood-glucose meter to their iPhone. Together wih an app which users download onto their iPhone, Glooko's service enables users to log their diabetes condition. The company's lead costs US$39. 95 and the app is free.
