Philippines-based mobile operator Globe Telecom has refuted allegations that it is trying to acquire additional radio spectrum from the government “free of charge”, as is being claimed by rival PLDT, reports Cellular News. The company noted in a statement that none of the operators pay a fee to be granted the rights to use spectrum – but must then pay an annual spectrum usage fee to the government. Globe has been asking the regulator to reclaim some of PLDT’s radio spectrum and reallocate it following PLDT’s acquisition of a controlling stake in another mobile network, Digital.
