Freescale’s new chip aims to lower e-reader price tag

Reuters reports that Freescale Semiconductor says its newest chip will help drive down prices in the next generation of electronic readers, which analysts say is key to the devices gaining mass adoption. The news agency notes that Freescale’s next-generation e-reader chip combines two important pieces – an applications processor and a display controller – into a single piece of hardware, which the company claims will cut the retail price by around US$30.
