Personal fitness apps generate 50 per cent of the total mobile health related data traffic on mobile networks, according to figures collected by Bytemobile, the network utilisation firm.

In addition, 39 per cent of subscribers use a fitness specific app while, perhaps surprisingly, 47 per cent use a pregnancy-related app, according to Citrix Bytemobile Mobile Analytics Report for Q1 2013 (Bytemobile is part of Citrix).

Another interesting finding is that pregnancy monitoring apps generate 9 per cent of total mobile health related data traffic on mobile networks.

Health and gaming “dominate” data traffic according to the company’s report which summarises data traffic patterns from a cross-section of operators’ networks. The report also quantifies subscriber use of social networking, the impact of advertising and highlights web video user experience.
