Dow Jones Newswires reports that the European Commission said today that European citizens should pay the same mobile phone charges no matter what European Union country they may find themselves in. The commission, the EU’s executive body, is launching a consultation on European Union “roaming” charges, saying a lack of EU-wide competition in the telecom market has left operators free to impose unjustifiably high margins on services they provide for customers who are traveling outside their home countries.
