Indonesian operator Indosat has commissioned Ericsson to modernise its network and, at the same time, has launched what is claimed to be Asia’s fastest mobile network. The high-speed network is based on the Swedish vendor’s HSPA Evolution kit and has peak theoretical speeds of up to 42 Mb/s. The three-year network modernisation deal aims to prepare Indosat for the move to LTE technology and is also heavily focused on reducing energy consumption. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
