Swedish vendor Ericsson today said it is upgrading the HSPA network of Japan’s SoftBank Mobile, supplying it with HSPA Evolved technology. Under the contract, Ericsson is deploying and integrating new radio base stations for the Tomeihan area which includes Japan’s biggest cities; Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. The move comes as SoftBank claims to be the first operator in the world to have higher revenues from data than from voice. Meanwhile Cellular News reports that Malaysia’s Axiata Group has entered into a “five-year strategic global framework arrangement” with Ericsson.
