NTT Docomo announced a raft of new devices, alongside an enhanced cloud service portfolio and the launch of new mobile gaming and commerce services.

The Japanese number one announced 16 terminals set for launch from this month, including “nine smartphones, one tablet, four feature phones, one photo panel and one mobile Wi-Fi router”.

The smartphones, tablet and router are all compatible with its Xi-branded LTE services.

All of its new smart devices are powered by Android, with two smartphones powered by Android 4.1 – the latest version of the Google OS.

Five of the smartphones and the tablet also feature quad-core CPUs.

Manufacturers represented in the update are Fujitsu (including the Arrows Tab F-05E, pictured), NEC, LG Electronics, Sony Mobile, Samsung and Sharp.

The company is enhancing its cloud services for Android devices, including an upgrade to its Shabette-Concier personal agent, and the introduction of cloud-compatible versions of its phonebook and email services. And it will “begin operating platforms for gaming in late November and online shopping in mid December”, via its dmarket content and services portal.

The games service, dgame, will offer content from partners including Namco Bandai, Konami Digital Entertainment, Sega and Square Enix.

The operator said that “for user safety, dgame will not offer compulsive-style content or games designed to tempt users, and will limit the amount of spending and social communication functions available to minors”.

The service will also be available to customers of other operators.

The dshopping service will “begin by offering some 70,000 items, including daily commodities such as drinking water, shampoo and detergent, and products from Docomo subsidiaries Radishbo-ya, an organic foods retailer, and Oak Lawn Marketing, an operator of TV home shopping channels”.

Another Docomo company, Tower Records Japan, will link to the service, and the product line-up will be expanded moving forward.

Payments for purchases can be added to the customer’s phone bill.
