Dell has opened a mobile application store, debuting a branded version of PocketGear’s white-label marketplace. It has a number of quirks, including the fact that US owners of the vendor’s Streak tablet connected to AT&T are unable to use it – because the operator restricts Android software purchases to the main Android Market. The store also lacks support for the China Mobile version of the Mini 3i smartphone.

Because of the off-the-shelf nature of the proposition, it offers applications for a number of platforms not supported by Dell devices, including Symbian OS and Palm/HP’s WebOS. It offers a number of payment options, including credit cards and PayPal accounts, and some free applications are also available. Dell Mobile Applications Store has a catalogue of 50,000 titles, putting it some way behind Android Market. The Dell section currently lists three devices, the Mini 3iX offered by Claro (Brazil) and two versions of Streak (Euro and UK).
