Andy Rubin, head of Google’s Android business, said that more than 900,000 devices powered by the platform are activated every day, up from the 850,000 it claimed at the GSMA Mobile World Congress during February 2012.

The figures show a continued growth for Android, from 700,000 daily in December 2011 and from 500,000 in June 2011.

The news was announced in a tweet by Rubin, in which he also said he has “no plans to leave Google.“ This followed speculation about his involvements with start-up CloudCar, which the executive described as “a group of friends who I give free office space to in my incubator in Los Altos.“

Several recent reports have suggested that Android may have reached its peak in terms of market share, although with overall growth into the smartphone space, shipment volumes for the Google OS are still expected to rise in the coming years.

For example, IDC said that the market share of Android will drop by 8 percentage points over the next four years, but with shipment volumes having a 9.5 percent CAGR in the period to 2016.
