UK media company BSkyB played down reports that it is set to launch an MVNO, with Reuters reporting that it had said “we currently have no plans to offer mobile access beyond our existing public WiFi network.”

According to the initial reports, the company is set to launch a mobile operation in order to better compete with rival Virgin Media, which already has a mobile business alongside its media properties.

It was also said that BSkyB was in talks with Everything Everywhere about the launch of services.

Now, Reuters said that the company had noted: “as you might expect we regularly meet with a wide range of companies to explore and understand potential opportunities."

BSkyB also said that it is working to “continue to extend our leadership in mobile content.”
