Austria’s Competition Authority has called for input from parties affected by America Movil’s planned acquisition of an increased stake in Telekom Austria.

The Latin American telecoms giant is in the process of acquiring shares in the Austrian integrated operator which will take its ownership to around 23 percent. The deal is said to position it as “a long-term strategic partner” to Telekom Austria, as well as providing it with an “attractive presence in Central and Eastern Europe.”

According to a statement from the regulator, the deadline for applications in line with the country’s Cartel Act is 27 July 2012. “Entrepreneurs” with legal or economic interests impacted by the deal can file within the next 14 days.

America Movil is in the process of bolstering its position beyond its core Americas markets, with the company also acquiring a significant stake in Netherlands-based KPN. It has stopped short of taking controlling stakes, however.

Telekom Austria is also involved in a separate Austrian transaction, which is now being probed by the European Commission.

Hutchison Whampoa, owner of 3 Austria, is set to acquire rival Orange Austria from owners Mid Europa Partners and France Telecom. Once this is complete, some assets of Orange Austria – including its Yesss operation, some spectrum and infrastructure – will be sold-on to Telekom Austria.

The Austrian authorities are also investigating the deal, which will see Telekom Austria bolstering its leadership position in the market.
