AT&T is to add to its existing Wi-Fi coverage in major markets, starting with locations in New York and San Francisco. The move follows a trial by the operator that used Wi-Fi to supplement mobile broadband coverage in urban areas with high usage. The operator will start by expanding its Wi-Fi presence in New York’s Times Square and installing new Wi-Fi hotspots near the Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. In addition, AT&T plans to launch its next Wi-Fi hotspot in San Francisco’s Embarcadero Center.
