Dow Jones Newswires notes that the rising popularity of smartphones and mobile computers helped UK microchip designer ARM Holdings deliver a sharp rise in second-quarter earnings and sales, with the strong momentum expected to continue for the remainder of the year. Profit before tax and exceptional items more than doubled to £43.5 million in the three months to June 30 from £16.3 million a year earlier, beating market expectations of £33.5 million. Second-quarter revenue rose 54 percent to £100 million, ahead of expectations of £90.7 million. In dollar terms, revenue was up 42 percent to US$150.3 million.
