Russia’s Altimo, the telecoms arm of Alfa Group, has acquired a further 14 percent in Turkcell, getting an upper hand in the fight with Turkey’s Cukurova over control of the operator. However, an official at Altimo told Reuters it had not incorporated the 14 percent stake as Cukorova formally has 30 days to file an appeal. Nordic operator TeliaSonera separately owns 37 percent of Turkcell.
