The Danish National IT and Telecom Agency awarded 900MHz and 1800MHz licences to Hi3G Denmark, the only bidder for the spectrum, for a combined cost of DKK12 million (US$2.25 million), with the process to be completed when the operator hands over the cash. The auction was only open to companies which don’t already hold spectrum in these bands, ruling out the local units of TDC, Telenor and TeliaSonera. At the time it announced the awards, the Agency noted that the spectrum is suitable for “2G technology, 3G technologies and LTE (4G), and the licenses can thus be utilised for mobile broadband” – it is not clear which technologies 3 Denmark is intending to deploy.
