PRESS RELEASE: Recently, China Telecom’s Guangdong Branch (Guangdong Telecom) partnered with Huawei to complete a dual-band GigaGear test of 1.8GHz and 2.1GHz in a residential area in Guangzhou. The test demonstrated uplink speeds exceeding 1Gbps, providing strong support for new service, live streaming, mobile and fixed wireless camera, cloud gaming, and mobile AI application.
1.8GHz + 2.1GHz Dual-Band 8T8R Site in a Residential Area
Guangdong Telecom owned 2x95MHz spectrum of FDD 1.8GHz and 2.1GHz, enable by Huawei’s 8T8R RRU hardware, This deployment achieved one box for two bands deployment. By the latest GigaGear pooling technology and optimization solvers, resource scheduling was upgraded from super bands convergence from 3 domain ( Time, Frequency, and Beam domains) upgrade to multi-domain. By adding power domains and unified scheduling for 4G/5G services, spectrum efficiency was greatly enhanced.
Powered by GigaGear, the system has implemented mid-band pooling, unified wireless resource management, and optimized resource orchestration. This enables a unified approach to hardware, management, and scheduling across non-contiguous spectrum bands ranging from 1.8GHz to 2.1GHz, significantly improving spectrum utilization.
Performance Validation
The deployment focused on validating the pooling performance of NR 1.8GHz and NR 2.1GHz with 90MHz of aggregated spectrum. Field tests showed impressive results: Single-user downlink CA speeds reached 2.08Gbps, and uplink CA speeds reached 1.05Gbps by Test UE, showcasing the exceptional performance of the technology.
As more terminals supporting NR CA become available and the MBSC channel resource pooling feature is fully activated, multi-user downlink speeds are expected to increase by 30%. Additionally, as 3GPP latest version release 18 terminals gradually adopt MBSC with Single DCI, multi-user downlink speeds could see a further 10% boost.
A Milestone for 5G Network Development
The successful verification marks a significant milestone in Guangdong Telecom’s 5G network construction. This initiative not only enhances current 4G and 5G performance but also strengthens the overall competitiveness of the telecom network as 5G adoption grows.
Guangdong Telecom plans to leverage these positive results to deploy 1.8GHz + 2.1GHz dual-band NR network for live stream base, residential areas and high-speed rail stations. By aligning with business growth and user experience improvements, the company aims to drive continuous innovation in network performance, delivering higher-quality, more efficient, and stable services to users.
