The European Commission has given Google six extra weeks to respond to criticisms regarding its management of the Android platform.
According to Reuters, the search giant asked for an extension in order to review documents in the case file. While the deadline was 27 July, this has now been pushed back to 7 September.
Earlier this year, the regulator accused Google of “stifling competition and innovation” by imposing restrictions on use of the Android platform.
This includes requirements that Google is the default search engine – enabling the company to generate revenue for its core business – and requiring prominent positions for Google apps, even where alternatives are available.
Google has also looked to limit the penetration of Android variants which do not support its products and services.
The EC has other Google investigations underway, into areas such as online advertising and commerce.
