Google updates iOS version of Wallet app

16 DEC 2014

The latest iOS version of the Google Wallet app includes a number of new features including support for Touch ID and the ability for users to divide up the cost of a transaction between them.

Users can now access the Wallet app via the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on compatible Apple devices. However, it should be noted that the new feature, while enabling fingerprint access to the app itself, does not enable authentication of payments.

The update also promises to make it easier for friends to split the cost of a bill between them. According to Engadget, users add the amount to divide up, choose the users who are sharing the cost and then decide how much each one is contributing toward the final bill. The app then ensures they are sent reminders to pay up.

Other features in the latest version of the app include access to loyalty and gift cards even when a user is offline. The app also supports native screen resolution on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and says it fixed a problem that previously prevented some users from opening the app.
