Vodafone and Netflix announced a renewal to its partnership in the UK, which will see customers on select bundles gain a free year’s access to the video streaming service.

The agreement builds on the companies’ first exclusive promotional partnership struck last year, which allowed Vodafone customers to watch Netflix content on a number of devices for six months.

The latest add-on, which is now available, will allow customers on Vodafone’s Red Value, SIM Only or Red + Sharer Bundles to watch Netflix TV shows and movies as part of Netflix’s two screen plan worth £7.49. Again, the service will be accessible across smartphones, tablets, smart TVs and other devices.

Cindy Rose, Vodafone UK’s consumer director, said the company received “brilliant customer feedback” from those that selected to take Netflix as part of its promotional campaign last year, and said the success was largely down to its “ever expanding 4G network”.

“Our 4G customers are using four times more data than those on 3G, which shows how popular services such as Netflix are with our 4G customers,” she added.

Vodafone said it is spending approximately £2 billion on its network and services across the UK over 2014 and 2015, and has now expanded its 4G coverage to 626 cities.

It has looked to snare 4G customers from rivals, including market leader EE, through content offerings like this, and also offer customers access to Spotify and Sky Sports as part of its 4G promotions.

According to GSMA Intelligence, Vodafone has more than 5.4 million 4G connections in the UK, lagging behind EE’s 12.2 million connections.

Earlier this month, Vodafone said it would also bring Netflix services to its Spanish customers in October.
