Telecom Italia played down mounting speculation relating to possible deals in Europe and Brazil, as it unveiled a new TIM brand logo in a move to consolidate its services.

The Italian incumbent has been linked with a possible deal to merge its Brazilian arm TIM Participacoes with Oi in Brazil, as well as a possible European mega deal with French operator Orange.

Orange CEO Stephane Richard further fuelled speculation by stating the operator was interested in European consolidation, which “could involve Telecom Italia”, reported Reuters.

Both rumours have been dismissed as “speculation” by Telecom Italia.

TIM brand revealed
Telecom Italia said last year it had begun a process to bring its fixed, mobile and internet offerings under a single TIM commercial offering, and this week unveiled its new logo at a presentation in Rome.

Marco Patuano, the company’s CEO, said bringing its propositions together creates “a unified brand that combines the solidarity and size of Telecom Italia with the innovative characteristics of TIM”.

In a statement, TIM also reiterated its commitment to a €10 billion investment plan over the next three years, with €5 billion of the spend dedicated to “digital fixed and mobile technologies, and the development of cloud infrastructure and data centres”.

According to Reuters, Patuano said the group now plans to raise its targets for fixed and mobile broadband as part of a new business plan. Up to now, the company has said it aims to reach 95 per cent of the population with LTE and 75 per cent with fibre by 2017.
