Samsung has taken the wraps off a new 4G smartphone that looks like being positioned as an affordable option in its flagship Galaxy line.

The South Korean giant talked up the new “value-driven” Galaxy Express as making 4G speeds “accessible to everyone.” It is thought likely that Samsung will provide pricing and availability at Mobile World Congress next month.

The device sports a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and back and front cameras (5 MP and 1.3 MP, respectively). It is equipped with an LTE radio and NFC; it runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

By comparison, the flagship Galaxy SIII uses 1.4 GHz quad-core processors, has 8 MP and 1.9 MP cameras and a larger screen (4.8-inch).

“The Galaxy Express is a value-driven 4G LTE smartphone, designed for the young social explorer,” said Samsung in a statement.
