Oracle starts US job cuts

Oracle reportedly laid off an undetermined number of US employees and began mulling moves in other global offices as part of an effort to cut costs by up to $1 billion.

Bloomberg reported Oracle had eliminated jobs in its US customer experience division. This followed an article by The Information last month stating lay-offs in Canada, India and parts of Europe could also be in the works.

Oracle information placed its full-time staff count at 143,000 at end-May.

The company is chasing Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud in the cloud sector.

Reuters reported Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft have recently discussed cuts or a slowdown for their respective hiring plans in response to increasing costs.

Meta Platforms also recently lowered recruitment goals, as it braces for a tough economy.
