O2 UK said it is working to bring a “unique smart home proposition” to the UK market by the summer of 2016, marking the European commercial debut of the Digital Life home management and automation platform created by AT&T.

AT&T and O2 parent Telefonica announced pilot trials of the platform in September 2014.

“Across a range of sectors, we’ve already seen technology evolve from analogue to digital to smart. But when it comes to our homes, the experience is mostly stuck in analogue,” said David Plumb, digital director at O2.

In a statement, the UK player also said that “crucially”, it will use its advisors and installation experts to “make it easy and simple for people to get the most out of that tech, ensuring they can save money and time or simply gain peace of mind”.

In addition to AT&T, O2 is working with smart heating control company Tado.

Kevin Peterson, president of AT&T Digital Life, said: “Digital Life’s platform is an end-to-end solution that pulls a variety of devices and capabilities into a single experience that allows consumers to see through the noise and manage the system through a single app. By adding OEM’s such as Tado to the ecosystem, O2’s customers will have even more choice in managing their connected home experience.”
