EE is targeting the lower end of the UK’s LTE market with the launch of an own-brand smartphone which, it claims, will be the lowest priced on the market.

The new Android device, which is called Kestrel, is available from the end of April at a cost of £100 on pre-paid plans.  It will be the first in a range of own-brand 4G smartphones, said EE.

The device will also be available free on a range of new low-end 4G tariff plans that start at £14 per month. The 24-month plan includes 500MB of data, 500 minutes of calls and unlimited text for that price.

EE is also introducing a new range of monthly 4G packages for small businesses that start at £17 per month (excluding VAT).

The new Kestrel has a 4.5 inch display, runs on a 1.2 Ghz quadcore Snapdragon processor and offers HD voice capability.

Subscribers to the £14 a month package can opt for the Alcatel Idol S as an alternative to the Kestrel.
