Verizon Communications is talking with the CEOs of content providers about taking video content from its FiOS service nationwide, including over mobile networks, said CEO Lowell McAdam.

The FiOS video service is fibre-based but Verizon would like to fill in coverage where that network is not present using mobile networks as well as web TV.

McAdam’s comments were made at the Morgan Stanley Technology Media and Telecom Conference, and reported by Reuters.

“I have personally had discussions with the CEOs of the large content companies, and we would love to partner with them… across the country,” said McAdam.

In January, Verizon acquired Intel’s OnCue web TV service for an undisclosed sum, supposedly to fill out its geographic footprint for video service.

The operator’s FiOS service has more than 5 million subscribers, which is equivalent to about five per cent of pay TV households.

Verizon is open to providing OTT content to any device, presumably including smartphones and tablets.
