Slovenia’s privatisation coordinator SDH confirmed it will ask the government to make a decision on financial group Cinven’s proposed acquisition of Telekom Slovenije.

Cinven said this week its reported €850 million bid is only valid until 10 June, and it remains the only bidder at this stage.

In a statement, SDH, which is coordinating the privatisation of the operator, said the sale (of Telekom Slovenije) “would be suitable and economically viable”.

Cinven recently increased its offer for the company after politicians claimed its first bid was too low, and the company has since sought help from the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to help finance the offer.

Cinven will take a 72.75 per cent controlling stake if it is successful, with the option to acquire the remaining shares at a later date.

Reports emerged last week indicating that the opposition centre left United party tried to block the sale, stating the company should be left in state hands, but its claims were rejected by parliamentary boards.

Telekom Slovenije is the largest of 15 companies put up for sale by the government in 2013. So far, only four deals have been done.

It is still unclear when the government will respond to the offer.
