Orange has given commitments to the EU competition authority over its proposed €3.4 billion bid to acquire Spanish broadband provider Jazztel.

The EU competition authority’s website confirmed the commitments were made by Orange on 6 March, without offering up any further detail.

The operator has offered concession to the anti-trust regulator, according to Reuters.

The latest submission by Orange follows a warning it received from the EC last month that the deal threatens competition in the Spanish telecoms market.

If the takeover goes ahead, it will create Spain’s second-biggest fixed broadband operator and strengthen Orange’s position in the mobile market, where it is in third spot, behind Telefonica and Vodafone.

The provisional deadline for a decision by the authority is 30 April, 2015.
